Baton Rouge Office Hosts Art Party! 09/16/2011

The consumers at the Baton Rouge office are currently participating in the third annual Christmas Card Contest.  This contest, which takes place in September and October, gives our consumers an opportunity to demonstrate their artistic talents.  In addition, it provides the staff and consumers with the opportunity to begin celebrating the holidays early! 

Typically, the consumers have the entire month of September to work on their entries, which are judged by a panel in October.  Winners in several different categories, such as Best Traditional Christmas Scene, Best Use of Color, and Best Spiritual Representation of the Season, are then announced at the Christmas Card Party.  The best overall card, plus winning cards from other categories, are professionally printed and sold to raise money for the Client Assistance Fund. 

This year, we have decided to have a Christmas Card Contest Art Party to help get everyone in the spirit.  We provided the art supplies and encouraged the clients to be creative and have fun. The party was a huge success, with 45 entries!  The consumers and their direct support workers enjoyed snacks, music, and door prizes. 

The contest winners will be announced on Friday, October 21 at the Christmas Card Party at BREC Park Ballroom on Jefferson Highway from 1pm to 3pm. All GCSS BR consumers are invited to join us for music, pizza, and the announcement of the winners. Check back to our website for information on how you can order copies of our winning cards!
