our role
The Louisiana Department of Health and Hospitals (DHH) has recruited community-based non-profit organizations like GCTFS to provide outreach that targets children and families who are eligible but not enrolled in Medicaid or LaCHIP (Louisiana Children’s Health Insurance Program). GCTFS is involved in two outreach programs:
- CHIPRA (Children’s Health Insurance Program Reauthorization Act)
: this program canvasses the parishes to locate children and families who may qualify for LaChip, focusing on rural areas with high percentages of uninsured children, the Hispanic community, and families displaced or adversely impacted by Hurricanes Katrina, Rita, and Gustav
GCTFS operates this program in Houma, Lafayette, and New Orleans
- CKF (Covering Kids and Families Coalitions): intents to build and maintain coalitions to help spread information about LaCHIP, LaCHIP Affordable and other Medicaid programs; the coalitions should involve the public and private sectors as well as community leaders and volunteers
GCTFS operates this program in Houma and New Orleans
